About 10 years ago, Ton Gerritsen from Veldhoven started his career at Wilting as a CNC programmer. Nowadays, he will be working as a Manufacturing Engineer and Production Manager at our Leerdam location. We spoke with Ton about his journey at Wilting and why, after a stint at another company, he decided Wilting was the right place for him.
“Through the father of a friend of one of my children. Both boys were BMX enthusiasts at the time, and we regularly spoke on the sidelines. He knew Wilting, and that’s how things got started. At that time, I had already been working at another company for over 25 years, where I continued working after graduating from Philips Business School. So, this decision wasn’t made easily. I had several interviews and spent a few months carefully considering whether I wanted to take this step. In September 2014, I finally started as a setter/programmer at Wilting in Wintelre.”
During my first period at Wilting, a lot was happening, and new tasks kept appearing. I regularly moved from Wintelre to Leerdam, and I gradually transitioned from being a programmer to an engineer. At a certain point, it all became too much to handle, and I was, so to speak, “done with Wilting.” The grass is always greener on the other side, of course, so I started working elsewhere. I soon realized I really missed Wilting. I still spoke to several Wilting colleagues regularly, and ultimately, it was my wife who gave me the push I needed. It only took one phone call on Friday for me to return to “the old nest” on Monday.
I’ve been a manufacturing engineer and production manager at Wilting Leerdam for a while now. In short, this means I monitor the product flow. I’m also responsible for everything related to production. People come to me with their problems, and I investigate what the issue is and how it can be resolved.
“Wilting has become a fairly large company, but it still feels like a family. The lines of communication are short and there’s a strong sense of togetherness, which makes it a pleasure to work here.”
